Lucas Takeshi Stratmann comes from the USA, and studied at the Juilliard School in New York with Sylvia Rosenberg and Masao Kawasaki. From 2020 to 2021 he was concert master of the Juilliard Orchestra.

In 2021 he became a member of the Orchestra Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic. Following successful auditions in February 2022 for a position in the second violins of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra, and in March for the position of section principal, he became a member of the Vienna Philharmonic in September 2022.

He has also appeared in the USA, Japan and Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed at renowned concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Alice Tully Hall and the David Geffen Hall in New York’s Lincoln Center, and in the Brahms Saal of the Vienna Musikverein. From 2019 to 2020 he performed as a soloist in various concert series with The Little Orchestra Society.

Lucas Stratmann has participated in the Aspen Music Festival and School, the International Summer Academy of the Mozarteum University Salzburg and the Taos School of Music in New Mexico. He is a prize-winner of numerous competitions, including the Violin Competition of the Aspen Music Festival 2016 and the 2015 Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award, presented by the National Public Radio (NPR) programme ’From the Top’.
